RESUMEN: En este trabajo se aplicó una metodología que permite estimar cuantitativamente el riesgo por deslizamiento de taludes en carreteras de zonas tropicales montañosas. La evaluación se realizó en un tramo de una carretera localizada en el departamento de Antioquia, Colombia. La amenaza se evaluó usando relaciones estadísticas entre la precipitación y la ocurrencia de eventos de inestabilidad. Los umbrales de falla se establecieron usando datos de lluvia diaria y registros de deslizamientos para un periodo de 4 años. La vulnerabilidad se estimó mediante la utilización de una metodología en la cual se asignan pesos a una serie de atributos relacionados con la exposición de las personas y vehículos obteniendo un índice denominado Nivel de Riesgo Estimado-NRE. Se concluyó que las estimativas por el método expedito usando el índice NRE producen resultados consistentes que ayudan a definir los sitios donde es indispensable realizar estudios más detallados y sistemas de mitigación.
