ABSTRACT: The Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge, connecting the village of Senneville to Vaudreuil-Dorion, is a critical highway link for transportation between Quebec and Ontario, carrying nearly 87,000 vehicles per day. The site is crossed by the Oka-Beauharnois anticline, which has disrupted the arrangement of geological formations in the area, resulting in zones of highly weathered rock. As part of the bridge reconstruction project—estimated at 2.3 billion Canadian dollars—the construction of caisson piles must comply with the CCDG (standard framework in Quebec), which requires a camera inspection to verify off-profile deviations, the amount of sediment, and the quality of the rock socket. However, this inspection method encountered several technical challenges, notably water turbidity and the fragile nature of the drilled walls. Alternative inspection methods therefore had to be used in this project. The results of these innovative methods will be presented in this article.
