RESUMEN: El día 4 de noviembre del 2007, en la comunidad de San Juan del Grijalva, Chiapas, ocurrió un deslizamiento de terreno, que generó un alud de suelo de aproximadamente 5 millones de metros cúbicos. Varias personas murieron, inundando y destruyendo viviendas de la localidad y obstruyendo el cauce pluvial. En este trabajo se presenta los resultados de una investigación llevada a cabo para intentar explicar las causas de ese desastre y tratar de generar indicadores que permitan prevenir otros más en el futuro.
