ABSTRACT: This paper presents early results from the adaptation of a triaxial device that utilizes a micro-fiber optic pressure sensor (MFOPS) to measure local (in specimen) pore pressures generated during shear. This includes an overview of calibration and a brief discussion on the results. During the triaxial testing, the system measures the pore pressure applied at the top and bottom of the specimen with standard external pore pressure sensors, which are then compared to an internal measurement captured by the MFOPS. This triaxial testing program is being utilized to confirm the applicability of the MFOPS technology.
